St.Margaret Martyr Parish Church
Bishop David Cocco-Palmieri established the parish of Sannat on the 28th April 1688. The present church dedicated to St.Margaret Martyr was built on the site of a smaller 16th century chapel in 1718 and was consecrated on the 16th October 1755. However, after significant structural changes and enlargement, it was consecrated again on the 22nd November 1868. It was raised to the Arch-presbyteral status on the 27th December 1893. The church has a very fine titular painting by Stefano Erardi.
Adoration Chapel:
On Sunday September 11 2016, a new chapel was opened for perpetual Adoration at Sannat by Gozo Bishop Mario Grech. The chapel is one of the parish’s main projects to mark the 125th anniversary of the arrival of the titular statue of St Margaret, patron saint of Sannat.
Assumption (il-Qortin)
Also commonly known as Saint Mary of mid-August, and first documented in 1545 it probably dates back to the 1300s. This church was looked after quite satisfactorily because from an early time its founder Paolo Chettut had bequeathed property to provide for its upkeep. In 1630, the feast day of the Presentation of Our Lady was being celebrated on November 21st in this church. It was deconsecrated in 1657. What probably are its remains have been unearthed in May 2019 in a Sannat field during works related to the construction of a block of apartments.
