For simplicity's sake, in this chapter, I am treating towns with more than one parish as single entities under the names of the towns themselves. In each town or village I will also start with the earliest established Parish Church at the top. Regarding Valletta and Victoria Gozo I place the Cathedral or Co-Cathedral on top. Next I will follow with the rest in alphabetical order irrespective of being Parish churches or not, leaving other denominations than Catholic for last. There are some Chapels, which I will appear to have left out. These will be found in other sections like Cemeteries and Early Surface.
Apart from the modern present day names of towns and villages, I will sometimes mention, in passing, names of old villages that have long been absorbed by other towns. This I will do just to preserve the history or traditional name of the particular chapel or church. University professors like Godfrey Wettinger have done studies about old place names, and some are also published online. There is also an early 15th century list of villages producing soldiers for the Maltese Militia; this list is part of our historical heritage at the Mdina Cathedral Museum. Though not integral to my subject, documents such as this were of great help in locating some of the outlying chapels.
